It’s Day 27 on your exciting Countdown to your cruise! Your goal today is to make sure that you have all of your Cruise Travel Insurance and Trip Cancellation in place. Or, that at least you have made an informed and conscious decision one way or another whether you will get it.
IF YOU HAVE INSURANCE – If you already have your insurance through the Cruise Line or if your Travel agent has assisted you in getting it through a Travel Insurance Company all you need to do today is:
- Have a copy of your Policy or the Policy Number
- Have The Travel Insurance Company’s Emergency Telephone Number
- Keep this information with you on all of the ports you visit.
EXAMPLE – Here is Cruise Goddess’s Travel Insurance story. The adventurer that she is, took a raucous boat ride in Mexico while on a Mexican Riviera cruise. Unfortunately, in wild waters, she was thrown from the boat and cut her face open really badly. She needed to be rushed to a Plastic Surgeon in Puerto Vallarta. With one call to the Emergency Number, the Insurance Company assisted in contacting the ship, who in turn contacted their best emergency Doctors in Mexico to help. The Ship’s Doctor was informed and ready to see Shauna the minute she arrived back aboard. The company also assisted in arranging transportation back to the ship. All because she had the Emergency Number with her. And by the way, it hasn’t stopped her from being the crazy adventurer that she is!
Medique 77501 International Traveler First Aid Kit with Polybags
We talk about this more in depth on the Accessories Page Day 17, but since we are talking about insurance we want you to know that if you need to go down to the ship Doctor’s Office it will cost you a pretty penny.
Most walk-ins start at about $80 just for the visit. So having the insurance to cover you will really help!
We also carry our own International Travel Kit that has almost everything you could possibly need for simple issues! From bandages and medicine to tiny scissors and medical eyewash, it has it all.
We just used it for 4 different reasons for 4 different passengers on our last cruise to the Caribbean!
Ben’s 30 Deet Mosquito Tick Insect & Bug Repellent Field Wipes – 24 Pack
True story!
Shauna went zip lining in Mexico and got bitten up by No See-ums! Yup, those nasty little bugs you can’t see but they see you!
She had over 50 bites on each leg! Her legs swelled up so badly she was laid up in bed for the rest of her cruise.
Now she won’t go anywhere without carrying these wipes and that is the truth!!
IF YOU HAVE NOT PURCHASED TRIP CANCELLATION/ TRAVEL INSURANCE – We Suggest you speak with your Travel Agent about the pros and cons of getting it at this time. Or you may click here to get a quote.
Trip Cancellation Insurance
Trip Cancellation Insurance and Cruise Travel Insurance covers many things. You may need to cancel because of a family emergency, illness or death, job issue, health issue, weather or emergency evacuations, Tour Company defaults and so much more. The most important thing to do is to speak with your Travel Agent to see if you feel you need it and get their advice. There are many different policies that you can purchase at this late date and your Travel Agent will be the best to guide you through the process and choices.
EXAMPLE – One of our clients fell off a ladder and broke his leg two days before his cruise. Luckily for him, he had purchased Insurance and got a full refund on his entire trip cost (minus the Insurance cost)
EXAMPLE – Another client ’s child became sick a week before the sailing and they could not go. Unfortunately, they did not have the insurance and lost the complete cruise cost on two cabins. Not to mention air and hotel.
EXAMPLE – Another client had purchased the Cancel for Any Reason type of policy and decided last minute that they just wanted a staycation instead of a cruise. (Why? We STILL don’t understand!) They canceled three days before and the insurance covered it.
Again, there are all kinds of policies now that cover everything and anything and others that cover the bare minimum. YOU CAN RESEARCH HERE or Let your Travel Professional walk you through the Cruise Travel Insurance process to see what is right for your scenario and budget. At least you will have made an informed decision before your amazing cruise!
